In 2016, the Center for Supported Learning (CSL) was created as an alternative community space that focuses on developing sustainable community connections for youth and young adults with neurodiversity. The mission of CSL is to promote inclusive life-long learning activities in the Huntington, WV metro-area.

We do this by collaborating with arts and educational programs, community groups, and organizations of various sizes from small nonprofits to state and local universities to foster sustainable, inclusive life-learning activities for youth and young adults with neurodiversity.

CSL has both a programmatic and research focus. Programmatically, we make connections between existing community resources and our participants’ interests (e.g. music, painting, pottery, dance, farming, and nutrition/cooking). By leveraging existing support services provided to our participants through various community-based social support programs, participants have the scaffolding necessary to allow them to meaningfully participate in existing community activities.

Our research focuses on the ways to build community, sustainability, and connections that extends through the lifecycle for people with neurodiversity. We write and present on topics like ethical research practices, sustainable supported housing, community identity, and other policy issues relevant to our community.

We need your help to expand the opportunities for people with neurodiversity to meaningful get involved in community activities.
